Browser storage choices
Effective date: July 27, 2026
Necessary storage
Baby Steps uses Firebase browser storage to maintain authentication, session storage to remember the current app screen, and local storage for the active-child selection, push-notification account binding, install-prompt usage milestones, and the baby-steps-privacy-consent preference. The baby-steps-milestone-guidance cookie remembers for up to one year when milestone guidance is dismissed. Active-child selections are stored separately for each signed-in account and are not synchronized between browsers. When push is enabled, service-worker storage keeps a random device binding so notifications for another signed-in account fall back to generic copy. The service worker stores account-separated snapshots of previously viewed journal and sharing data for offline access, and IndexedDB temporarily stores account-separated measurement and log changes made offline. Queued changes remain until they sync or you explicitly discard them; signing out requires syncing or discarding them first. Private snapshots expire after seven days, and local private data is cleared when you sign out, delete your account, or switch accounts. These items support security or functionality and are not used for advertising. The development-only test login uses an HTTP-only, same-site session cookie and is unavailable in production.
Optional Google Analytics
Only after acceptance, GA4 may set _ga to distinguish a browser and _ga_<measurement-id> to preserve session state. Baby Steps limits these cookies to 395 days and sends only fixed, sanitized page or app-screen locations, fixed onboarding progress events, and the fixed category of a newly created record. No account or child identifier, form value, note, measurement value, date, or free-text error is sent.
Rejecting Analytics prevents the Google tag from loading. Withdrawing consent disables future events and attempts to remove Analytics cookies immediately.
Advertising
Advertising is disabled. No AdSense script, advertising cookie, ad request, or advertising-consent signal is used. A future advertising release would require new disclosures, fresh consent, and an eligible certified consent-management platform.
Manage your choice
Necessary storage cannot be disabled inside Baby Steps because the affected features would stop working. Analytics is optional and can be changed at any time.
